425 DX Boletim





3W - Paul, WQ2N will be active as 3W2N from various regions of Vietnam between 23 May and 8 June. This will be a business trip, and Paul expects to be QRV in his limited spare time on 40-15 metres mainly CW. QSL via home call. [TNX DX World]

9M2 - Keith, GM4YXI plans to operate CW and SSB on 20, 17, 15 and maybe 12 metres as 9M2/GM4YXI from Pulau Perhentian Besar (AS-073) between around 10 UTC on 20 May until around 2 UTC on the 22nd. QSL via N3SL. [TNX GM3WOJ]

9M2 - The dates for RA9LR's activity from Langkawi Island (AS-058) [425DXN 1044] are 24 June-10 July. He will be active as 9M2/RA9LR on SSB, CW and digital modes, with a focus on the low bands. QSL via home call, direct (preferred) or bureau. [TNX RA9LR]

9N - A large multi-national team of operators from the Mediterraneo DX Club will be active as 9N0MD from Nepal on 13-21 November. They will operate SSB, CW and RTTY on 160-10 metres, with 3-4 stations and a focus on the low bands and RTTY. QSL route TBA. The team plans to give away trophies and prizes. F - The Radio Club of the French Army's 28th Transmission Regiment (F5KIN) will be active as TM28RT on 21-22 May during the "open doors" event. Operators F5RQQ, F8DFP and F8NAN will be active on the HF bands CW, SSB and RTTY. QSL via bureau to F5KIN. [TNX F5NQL]

F - Once again (for the 60th year) the Association des Radioamateurs de la Sarthe will activate a special event station for the 24 Hours of Le Mans. G - Promoting geological heritage to the general public, special station GB6GEO will be on the air from "Kent's Cavern", England's oldest "home" situated in the English Riviera (Torbay), for the 4th Geoparks Communication Weekend on 28-29 May. All of the QSOs will be confirmed automatically via the bureau; the QSL route for direct cards is via G3VOF. J7 - George K5KG, Dan K1TO, Jim WI9WI and Chris NX4N will be active as J79FCG (QSL via K1TO), J79WI (QSL via WI9WI) and J71W (QSL via NX4N) from Dominica (NA-101) on 21-31 May. They will operate CW and SSB on the HF bands and 6 metres, and will participate in the CQ WPX CW Contest as J7A (QSL via NX4N). [TNX NG3K]

OY - Look for OY/PA0VHA, OY/PA2A and OY/PA2AM to be active from Streymoy , Faroe Islands (EU-018) from 23 May to 2 June. They will be QRV on the HF bands CW and RTTY, as well as on 6 and 4 metres and via satellite AO-51. QSL via home calls. [TNX rsgbiota.org]

OZ - Thomas, DL4VM will be active as OZ/DL4VM from Fyn Island (EU-172) between 28 May and 18 June. He will operate mainly on 30, 15 and 6 metres CW and PSK. QSL via home call, direct or bureau. [TNX rsgbiota.org]

PJ4 - John, K4BAI and Dick, K4IQJ will be active as PJ4/K4BAI and PJ4/K4IQJ (QSL via home calls)from Bonaire (SA-006) on 24-31 May. They will operate mainly CW with some SSB and RTTY by K4IQJ. Look for K4BAI to participate in the CQ WW WPX CW Contest as PJ4A (QSL via K4BAI). [TNX The Daily DX]

SV - Cliff, SV1JG will participate in the CQ WPX CW Contest as SX8V from Milos Island (EU-067). Before and after the contest he will operate as SV8/SV1JG. QSL via home call, direct or bureau. [TNX OPDX Bulletin]

V2 - Darrell, AB2E will be active again as V26E from Antigua (NA-100) between 24 and 31 May, CQ WW WPX CW Contest included. Outside the contest he will operate on the low bands or 30, 17 and 12 metres. QSL via AB2E (direct) and LoTW. [TNX QRZ-DX]

V3 - Mike, VE2XB will be active as V31XB from Caye Caulker (NA-073), Belize from 19 May "for several weeks". He will be QRV on the HF bands and 6 metres. QSL via home call. [TNX VE2XB]

IOTA TRIP - Bert, DL2RNS and Ric, DL2VFR will be leaving on 24 May and going north. Planned IOTA activities include: EU-087 (Alnon or Hemson) as SD7V/3 and SM3/DL2RNS most likely on 26 May; EU-044 (Mageroya) as LA/DL2VFR and LA/DL2RNS on 28-31 May (mostly CW); EU-139 (Seskaro) as SD7V/2 and SM2/DL2RNS on 1 June. On 31 May they might also operate for a couple of hours as OH9/DL2VFR and OH9/DL2RNS from the Pallas-Yllasttunturin National Park. QSL via homecalls, and for SD7V via DL2VFR. [TNX DL2VFR]

CQ 2010 HALL OF FAMERS - CQ Magazine announced on 20 May its 2010 Hall of Fame inductees. The CQ Amateur Radio Hall of Fame was established in January 2001 to recognize individuals - radio amateurs or not - who significantly affected the course of Amateur Radio, as well as radio amateurs who have made significant contributions either to amateur radio, to their professional careers or to some other aspect of life on our planet. This year's inductees are: Nate Brightman (K6OSC), Robert Schmieder (KK6EK), E. King Stodola (W2AXO, SK), Bob Gunderson (W2JIO, SK), Dave Bell (W6AQ), Cardinal Roger Mahony, Archbishop Emeritus of Los Angeles (W6QYI), Ron Moorefield (W8ILC), Loretta Ensor (W9UA, SK), Malcolm Raff (WA2UNP, SK), Allen Taflove (WA9JLV), Sylvia Margolis (SK) and Ted McElroy (SK). The CQ Contest Hall of Fame (established in 1986) and the CQ DX Hall of Fame (established in 1967) honour those amateurs who not only excel in personal performance in these major areas of amateur radio, but who also "give back" to the hobby in outstanding ways. This year's inductee to the CQ Contest HoF is John Sluymer (VE3EJ). The 2011 inductee to the CQ DX HoF is Michael J. McGirr (K9AJ).

EU PSK DX CONTEST - The EU PSK Club amateur radio operators all over the world to participate in the 8th European PSK DX Contest, to be held on 21-22 May (from 12 UTC to 12 UTC). The objective of the contest is to establish as many contacts as possible between radio amateurs around the world and radio amateurs in Europe using the BPSK31 mode. IOTA: RULE CHANGES - With the publication this month of the new IOTA Directory a number of rule changes have come into force including the raising of the minimum QSO threshold from 200 to 1000 QSOs for first-time activated new IOTA groups and amendment of the handling of islands previously deleted following a deletion of a DXCC entity, allowing acceptance of old Penguin Islands and Red Sea Islands QSOs for AF-070 and AS-009 respectively. A note of the main changes has been uploaded to G3KMA's website ( www.g3kma.dsl.pipex.com ).

QSL P40L - "Now that P40L is active again, I am getting QSL requests and emails for/about both old and fairly new QSOs", Erik K5WW says. Please note that he has not been the QSL manager for P40L for a couple of years; the current QSL route is via WA3FRP.

WRTC-2014 - Tim Duffy (K3LR), Craig Thompson (K9CT) and George DeMontrond III (NR5M) are the initial members of the WRTC-2014 Advisory Council. The Advisory Council consists of individuals who have experience in the execution of major events and are willing to provide significant financial resources to the project. The 2014 World Radiosport Team Championship will be held in New England (www.wrtc2014.org).


SILENT KEY ....

George Ripley (GD3AHV) passed away on 11 May at 90 years of age. He was one of the very first 6m permit holders in the UK who started operating on 50 MHz back in February 1982.
